Exploring Edmodo.com

Today, I've been exploring Edmodo.com
Edmodo is a kind of Learning Management System website.
The first screenshot is a home feed page in which users can see posts overall.
It looks like a Facebook group page.
One feature I would like to point out is 'Planner' from the second screenshot.
Students can create events and tasks.

Edmodo is very intuitive, helpful, and easy.
But Edmodo is a light tool.
It means that its functions are very limited compared to other LMS such as Blackboard.

  1. Hi Taehyeong,

In my opinion, Edmodo is a good tool for teachers. It is not just a LMS it looks like Facebook and it has social networking features:
1-Teachers communities in district level, nationwide, or groups of a specific subject matter.
2- It is better the Bb in the way it allows students and teachers to have their own profiles.
3- It offers a couple of motivational aspects such as giving and designing patches, using emoticons to respond to students and classmates.
4- It allows teachers to have an "insight" of what students are doing by tracking how do they feel on assignments.
5- Allows for statistics in the district level!!

However, it looks very isolated for kids who used to be connected in Fb because students can only interact through their teachers (this could be good or bad).

These are the points that I recall right now. If I remember any more I will add them here.

Anyway, thank you for bringing this tool for discussion.

    2. You are welcome :-). I have a question for you, how can I enter the class Edmodo? Do I need a code when I sign in as a student?

      Here is a class code.
When you sign up, add this code into the box.

  2. I almost wish we had a "fake" classroom to view where real time interactions were happening between students and teachers and we could observe all these tools with active users rather than users trying the tools out. Just to get a better idea of how everything works and comes together.

    1. Loreli, this might help give you a bit of a glimpse: http://blog.edmodo.com/2013/02/22/video-resources-to-help-you-introduce-edmodo/

Unfortunately, all sorts of issues with peeking in on real classrooms. I don't think there's that much real-time interaction in edmodo unless a class goes to a lab.

Oh, and I set up more in our edmodo to play around with.
