Week 5 Prompt

Week 5
How do you judge the value of expertise on the Web? Does it differ from your notion of expertise in face-to-face settings? Why or why not?


The value of expertise on the Web is definitely differ from other type of expertise.
For expertise on the Web, there are more requirements exist.

First, they need to be more sensitive to tech trends, specifically on the Web.
Trends of the Web is so fast.
Expertise on the Web can recognize the rapid change, and can actively follow the need.
In contrast, expertise in face-to-face setting, they tend to be less sensitive to tech trends.

Second, it is necessary for expertise on the Web to communicate with others very actively.
Today web communication is not static. Rather, it is inter-mutual.
They should know that their role is to contribute to the Web by participating and communicating actively.

Third, they should be professionals to analyze the Web. This means that they need to know how to analyze the Web. It requires the Web expertise to be skilled in many areas including the web area and others fields. For example, Web expertise need to know how to analyze the web activities among users, as well as, how to interpret them by strong theoretical backgrounds such as communication, ethnography, and so forth.

The Web expertise need to be professionals in various areas.
The feature is definitely distinguishable from face-to-face expertise.

    I answered this question with a different perspective, assuming the expertise could be on any subject but published through a web medium. I really like the approach you took to focus on expertise specifically on the topic of the Web. I never thought about how active and diverse a person's expertise must be to be considered a Web expert. Definitely highlighted how far I have to go!

  2. Hey Taehyeong,

    I really miss seeing you in class and I always enjoy our conversations. I agree that knowledge in organizational database use, data mining skills, and statistics are central to web expertise and analysis.

    To me, web expertise is the future and greater content knowledge in web expertise will surpass face to face expertise. Maybe not in the foreseeable future, but definitely in our lifetime.
